Skagway Bound and Down

On the way to Whitehorse and before the Mountain Sheep

Most people don't care for TAX DAY...  Well, I don't mind it one bit!  There are times in my life that it has marked a good thing in my life, nothing to do with paying taxes, or even with receiving money.  Strong points in my life, I guess you'd say.  Well, Pete and Therese were coming to pick me up at Russ's to take me away... away to a far away land, called Skagway, where I would be working on the Denver Glacier for the next 4 to 5 months as a cook, a baker and a candlestick maker... well not really, you'll see.

Pete and Therese pulled in, ironically as I was paying my Maine State Tax, online, and I said my so longs to the dogs and told them to be good and I'd see them in the fall.  After Russ tried to scare Pete about his tires, I said so long to my recently injured wanna be 18 year old buddy, but he's not, and needs to remember that yes, 4 wheelers do still tip when you're whippin donuts... on ice, fool.  Gotta love him.  I hopped in the back of the truck, put on my sunglasses and got a little teary...  just a little bit.  There were a few so longs that I didn't get to say, but nonetheless, we were off.
We drove and pulled off just outside of Tok and slept in the truck.  What views, when I wasn't looking at the back of my eyelids, I was checking for leaks.  I went to bed the night before at about 0300 and woke up at 0700.  (Oh yeah, Russ made me a nice breakfast with moose, my favorite!)  The next morning, we headed to Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory in Canada.  Did we ever see some critters!!!  We saw 2 Linx, 4 Moose, 2 Caribou, Elk, a herd of Buffalo, Ptarmigan (they're white birds), Mountain Sheep and a Fox in Whitehorse.  I thought we were going through a wildlife park, maybe we were, but don't ruin it for me!
Pete left the next day after we arrived in Whitehorse to head to Skagway and Juneau to get things ready on both glaciers, then Therese and I stayed at this really nice RV Park, Pete was there one night.  Mountain Ridge RV Park, I think it was called.  Great price, awesome people, very kind, that work there.  Anyone that drives through there, I'd give them my business!
This was at the RV Park, couldn't help myself...
The night before Therese and I were going to leave, she noticed the Northern Lights starting to dance out the truck window.  They were blue!  It was a short show, but a nice send off.  I have found that the times that I have seen them, they have brought good news and good things.  Back when Scott ran the Two Rivers 200, I saw them just before he came in to Pleasant Valley and just before he left.  I knew he was going to win, I knew that before, but they just reassured it for me.  Those were the only times I had seen them during that race.  So, I knew that good things were in store for me on this next journey.  Therese and I had fun, that's for sure, we felt like we were a side show attraction.  I told her we needed to start charging, 10 cents a questions, 15 bucks an answer.  I thought it was a good deal???
Therese and I fed the dogs in the morning, 20 APR 11, and were planning on leaving at 1200 for Skagway, well good thing she checked her email, because we left earlier.  We got on the road, pretty damn quick.  Going through "no man's land", between Whitehorse and Skagway, is amazing! The beauty, I am excited to see it on the way back, when everything is green!
We made it Skagway with no problems!  Therese is an awesome driver, there are some STEEP places, where we both didn't speak.  We got all 40 dogs out to the glacier...  VIA.... HELICOPTER!!!  Yeah, I'm yelling.  I was soooo excited!  I had never been on a helicopter before, just my father's Gyro and no, not a sandwich.  It was AWESOME!  I felt a little safer in that than the Gyro, not gonna lie!
When we got there, we set everyone up, the dogs, unpacked our stuff and got situated.
Now... we wait! ..... That is until we are done setting up camp!  More to come!!!
A Pano, Therese is so good, she can split into two!  I think her twins name is Ginger
