And Then... There was Light
Finally, I can't believe it, I caught them. You would swear, up here I would have better luck catching Big Foot in the act of baking an apple pie or finding Jimmy Hoffa playing a game of Canasta than photographing the Northern Lights. Granted, these aren't AMAZING photos, but I will get some, hopefully.
I was in the house cleaning... at about 0100, getting ready for all of the visitors that were going to be coming for the start of the Iditarod, when Scott came into the house, he was out working on his sled in the shop, and scared the Ba-Jesus out of me, I was listening (and dancing) to my iPod, and said the Northern Lights were out. I tell you what! I felt like I was straight up tripping on hippy dust. Those light fairies where dancing and it was almost like you could hear them. Now it's a toss up for me, I am not 100% sure if they remind me more of the ridiculous jelly fish exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium or the movie The Abyss. It was beautiful. I only really saw green, with a slight sliver of red. They didn't last that long, but what I saw was amazing.
I was out there, in my PJs and Muck boots, kicking around with my tripod and remote trying to get a good shot. I will get better ones next time. Til then... eyes to the sky, when I'm not looking in front of me that is...
